New PV Trailer for Fate/ Extra Anime Adaptation

Even though I already watched a couple of Fate television anime, movies, OVAs and played the Fate/ Grand Order game, I am still looking forward to new projects from the Fate franchise. Being a huge Fate fan, I don't understand how I didn't see this announcement before.
On March 2016, Fate announced another television anime based on the PS game Fate/ Extra. The anime studio Shaft will produce the animation for the new anime with the name: Fate/Extra: Last Encore.

A new PV trailer was added to the official page last Saturday and I must say that it really looks great. The website also revealed new visual and the two main cast members. The anime stars Atsushi Abe as Hakuno Kashinami and Sakura Tange as Saber. I am also excited to finally see a new Saber who is, as I  recognize from the mobile game Grand Order, Nero, Fifth Emperor of Rome.

The story follows Hakuno who suddenly wakes up in a strange virtual world. With no recollection of the past he is forced to fight for his survival in a war he does not understand, for a prize of value far from his imagination. With only an enigmatic 'Servant' on his side, Hakuno faces both friends and enemies in battles to death only in order to retrieve the mysterious 'Holy Grail' that is said to grant any wish you desire.

The staff also looks good with Akiyuki Simbo (Puella Magi Madoka Magica) as the chief director at Shaft and Yukihiro Miyamoto as the series director. The character design is done by Masaaki Takiyama based on Rco Wada's original designs whereas the original Fate/ Stay Night creator Kinoko Nasu is responsible for series composition.

Anime Battle (Mononoke Hime vs. Spirited Away)

Greetings everybody and welcome to another anime battle here on World of Anime Girl. For those of you who are not familiar with this kind of post, it is some kind of detailed discussion in which I compare two anime in categories like: plot, story line, animation and characters. In the end I pick a winner between the two according to the results in each round.
This time I prepared for you the ultimate battle between two of the most incredible and most famous movies in anime history. They are both Studio Ghibli productions created by the one and only, Hayao Miyazaki. Now without further talk, let's get it started. Today's ANIME BATTLE: Mononoke Hime vs. Spirited Away. Enjoy!

PLOT AND STORY LINE

When I write this kind of post it usually ends up as a really long text, which most of you are probably just too lazy to read. So, this time I'll try to make it somewhat shorter.

Firstly Mononoke Hime. It is a fantasy movie that tells the adventure story of Ashitaka, young prince of an Emishi village. After it's been attacked by a demon, Ashitaka puts his life on the line to save his tribe but in doing so gets cursed by the demon. In order to find a cure he travels westward and eventually arrives at Tatara, the Iron Town, where he encounters a fierce conflict: Lady Eboshi of Tatara, promoting constant deforestation and pollution fights against Princess San and the sacred spirits of the forest who are furious at the destruction brought by the humans. While battling the demon inside himself, Ashitaka tries to stop  the conflict between the spirits and humans and finally create harmony.
Mononoke Hime is without any doubt an extremely interesting story that is both exciting and emotional. It is an extraordinary story that tackles one of the greatest issues of our age and simultaneously conveys the idea of a harmonious life between humans and nature. If we don't learn to live in harmony together, we'll soon face mutual destruction.

Spirited Away is on the other hand a supernatural anime movie that follows Chihiro, a stubborn, naive and spoiled little 10-year-old girl. While moving to their new house, Chihiro and her parents come across an amusement park, but she would soon realize it is not the place she expected it to be. As dusk falls strange things and creatures come alive and even the food becomes dangerous after it turns her parents into pigs. Now trapped in the Spirit World, Chihiro has to find the courage to live and work among spirits, with the help of her new friend Haku and other people she meets along her way.
Spirited Away tells an exciting and intriguing story about a girl's journey in an unfamiliar world that is all but a story for little kids. Even though it might not have a clear message on first sight, Spirited Away hides a really serious topic regarding prostitution which is, according to Miyazaki, still a problem in Japan. Not to get into detail, Miyazaki himself revealed more details about this topic in one interview, and if you want to find out more about it follow THIS LINK

Both these anime movies are as said Ghibli masterpieces that deserve the limelight more than any other (Your Name does come close but these two are still classics). And even tough most of us have seen them when we were kids, it is now that we actually understand what they are really about. Both Mononoke Hime and Spirited Away convey serious society issues, some being more obvious than the other. With a hint of romance in each, the movies relieve the tension from time to time and so move us with a touching 'love' or at least 'romantic friendship' story as well.

It was hard to pick a winner for this round. Spirited Away is definitely more enjoyable to watch considering the slower plot development in Mononoke Hime, but the fights and action in Mononoke make the movie really exciting. When it comes to the messages that they convey, Mononoke has a clear message that can be easily understood, while Spirited Away has just a hidden meaning that tackles a serious society issue. So even though Mononoke was a bit harder to follow due to its length and slow development, I consider it as the winner of this round.

CHARACTERS

Well what can I say, characters are the ones that carry the story and if the stories were so amazing then the characters were too. Without superficial, boring or annoying characters both anime did a great job with the protagonists as well as with the antagonists and side characters of the story. If I were to decide which movie had the better villain, I couldn't pick one. With Lady Eboshi at one and Yubaba at the other side, I wouldn't want to find my self in conflict with any of them. The leading males, Hak and Ashitaka are both brave and caring characters that were vital parts of the story but kinda played something like a sidekick for our heroines San and Chihiro.

"Many of my movies have strong female leads-brave, self-sufficient, girls that don't think twice about fighting for what they believe in with all their heart. They'll need a friend, or a supporter, but never a saviour. Any woman is just as capable of being a hero as any man."
I think that this Miyazaki quote explains it all. Both San and Chihiro are brave, strong and independent female characters that fight for what they love with all their might. They are both the kind of characters I love and that motivate me to do great. I might be a greater fan of San, but when it comes to all the characters, I think that we have a tie in this round.

ANIMATION AND STYLE

Even though the quality of animation didn't change much from 1997 (Mononoke Hime) to 2001 (Spirited Away) I still think that Spirited Away has a slightly better animation. Mononoke Hime has some really beautiful scenes, especially the ones in the forest with all the spirits. Spirited Away on the other hand had also many, and one of them nearly got into my Top 5 Most Beautiful Anime Moments (click on the link to see the full post). So on the whole, Spirited Away is the front runner in this round.

CONCLUSION

I think we have a tie which is not a surprise considering the fact that these movies are both masterpieces made by of one of the greatest anime makers in history, Hayo Miyazaki. His art work is unique, his stories are incredible and each of them conveys a special message in a way only Miyazaki can do. These movies, that most of us remember watching as kids, are everything but childish because they picture some really mature content and serious topics regarding our society. These classics of anime cinematography should be part of everyone's 'completed' part of their anime list because they'll never get old. And no matter what happens, San will always be our Mononoke-Hime and Chihiro will always be the girl who got Spirited Away.

Fairy Tail TV gets 'Final Season' in 2018

I still can't believe it's over. After 545 chapters, in 62 volumes, Fairy Tail reached its final chapter on July 26. Despite being somewhat repetitivne and predictive, Fairy Tail has become on of my favorite anime ever and now with the manga being finished I was really looking forward to some anime sequels. And it really hit the news some days ago: Fairy Tail is getting another anime sequel, 'The Final Season' in 2018. The news was revealed by non other but the creator of Fairy Tail, Hiro Mashima in one of his tweets:

After two anime seasons, one aired in 2009 and the other in 2014, Fairy Tail got two OVAs and two movies: Phoenix Priestess (2012) and Dragon Cry (2017). It's most recent television anime was the prequel Fairy Tail Zero which is one of my favorite story arcs of the entire franchise.

In addition to that, Mahima revealed one more thing over his twitter account in May:
"Even though the original manga is ending, I don't think Fairy Tail is done just yet. I have a lot of plans so please look forward to them".

I am certain that you won't have to worry about that, as many fans are probably looking forward to new Fairy Tail works just as I am.

Fate/ Grand Order Smartphone Game: Is it Worth Playing?

Fate/ Grand Order: First Order marked the beginning of 2017 in the Anime World and it was definitely not a good start. I mean, the concept and the idea behind the anime is great but I was really disappointed by it considering the fact that I am a huge Fate-franchise fan. June 25, marked the release of the English version of the smartphone game Fate/ Grand Order and I have to say that I was rather skeptical in the beginning. But after playing for a couple of hours I got totally addicted. Welcome to another review here on World of Anime Girl, but this time I am not talking about an anime show or movie, but the mobile RPG: Fate/ Grand Order. Enjoy!

The game basically follows the same story as the anime. It is 2015 and the secret organisation Chaldea is working on the preservation of the world history as well as investigating any abnormalities in the past that might lead to the extinction of humanity. On day, the future that Chaldea was observing suddenly disappears and the extinction of humanity is confirmed to happen in 2017. Chladea's job now is to send mages to different eras in the past, investigate any abnormalities going on in that time and prevent them. In the game, the mage that is sent to the past is you (the player) and your servant Mash. Mash is a demi-servant who belongs to the new shielder class and your companion in the game.

The game is pretty easy to play but it is really interesting. One of my favorite things in the game is definitely the summoning. By summoning different servants and essence cards, you set up your own team that you fight with while completing the quests in the game. For now there are in total 180 servants out of which 62 are limited or unplayable at the moment. There are different ways to summon servants or essence cards: Using summoning cards, Saint Quartz Crystals, friend points or you can obtain them as special rewards in events.

One thing is for sure, if you are interested in history and legends like I am, this game is definitely something for you. You probably know from the anime that most of the servants in Fate are famous people from the past like King Arthur, Gilgamesh, Lancelot, Alexander the Great etc. The game isn't any different, what's more, it might even be better because you can read a brief summary about their profile after you summon them. Also by using them in battles you gain servant bond points. Every time the bond levels up, you get more detail about the servant and his/ her life. My favorites for now are Altria Pendragon (of course), Chevalier d'Eon, Robin Hood, Marie Antoinette and Tamamo Cat.

After forming a party with at least two of your and one support servant from other players you start the battle. It is pretty easy to play. In 2 or 3 battles you try to beat the enemy by picking three different attacks that would, in time, decrease the enemy's HP to 0. Every time a servant attacks or gets attacked he/she gains NP points and after reaching 100% you are able to use the Noble Phantasm. The most interesting thing I found about the battles is the enemy class tendency. Before the battle starts you see the servant classes that will appear in the battle and you form your party according to the class affinity. The affinity explains which class is stronger or weaker than the other one. For instance, Saber is stronger against Lancer but is weaker against an Archer. So if your enemies tend to be Lancer classes, you'll pick Saber as the servant in the fight.

And now my favorite and probably the most important reason I am playing this game: the historical settings. As said in the beginning, Chaldea sends you and Mash off to different eras in the past so you can fix any abnormalities in that time period. Even though magic and fantasy are the core of the whole story, you still get a realistic setting, with realistic characters and events. Your first mission is the Fuyuki incident of 2004 which is also the setting of the movie First Order. Next you go to Orleans, France into the Hundred Year's War where you meet real characters and personalities that marked that time, including Janne d'Arc, Marie Antoinette,General Gilles and even Mozart. The third and the mission I am currently at is set in A.D. 60, Septem (Roman Empire) during the rule of  the Fifth Roman Emperor Nero. I can't wait to finish this and move one to the next one because it is so exciting to play. It's like watching a movie, reading a light novel and playing a game at the same time.

Is Fate/ Grand Order worth playing? Yes, it definitely is worth your time. The game is really interesting and exciting no matter if you are a Fate fan or not. Also if you have any interest in history you'll probably love this game. Even though I was really disappointed by the first movie I can't actually wait to see the next one and it's all because of the game. The game is so much batter then the movie and I think I'll be playing it for a long time.

Kotonoha no Niwa ( The Gaden of Words): ANIME MOVIE REVIEW

Emotional, moving and beautiful are three words that best describe the masterpieces of Makoto Shinikai, the producer and director of anime movies such as Five Centimeters per Second, Children Who Chase Lost Voices, Someone's Gaze, his undoubfully greatest work Kimi no Na wa and the movie that I am reviewing today: Kotonoha no Niwa (The Garden of Words). Kimo no Na wa, or Your Name, is without any doubt among the greatest anime movies ever made but when it comes to the beauty of a movie (its animation and scenery), I think that Kotonoha no Niwa is better. I talked about the beauty of the movie in my last post: My Top 5 Most Beautiful Anime Moments and thought that it definitely deserves a review. Enjoy!

STUDIO: CoMix Wave Films, The Answer Studio
GENRE: Slice of Life, Psychological, Drama, Romance
TYPE: Movie ( 46 min.)

PLOT AND STORY LINE

The story follows high school student Takao Akazuki who is aspiring to become a shoemaker. He usually skips the morning lessons on rainy days and spends the time in a beautiful garden in Tokyo to work on his shoe designs. It is there where he meets Yukari Yukino, a beautiful yet strange woman. Soon the two become very close without realizing how important they are to each other. Just by being there and talking while enjoying the rain, makes them able to alleviate their worries hidden in their hearts. But after the rainy season ends and the scorching, sunny days fill up the city, their relationship is put to a test. The thing that I didn't like that much about most of Shinikai's movies is how the story progresses rather slowly and without many excitement. But after watching this anime I fell in love with his works.
The story of Kotonoha no Niwa is just as the list of genres suggests, really dramatic. It might have a steady and slow story line in the beginning put it gets really exciting after some time. In time we found out about both of the main character's lives and go trough some really interesting moments and intriguing plot twists.
When it comes to the psychological part of the story it mostly pictures the hardships of a young adult. Adult doesn't always mean mature and sometimes they need the healthy mind of a high-school-student to make it trough. The youngsters on the other hand are too naive and don't see life as serious as it actually is. I loved to see this clash of generations that are in age not far apart from each other but in mind certainly are. The point is in short: when adults spend some time with younger people they get some part of their youth and optimism back that definitely helps them overcome the obstacles in life later on. This might also be a good reminder to all of us students, high school or university, to not abandon our youthful mind, the fresh lifestyle, optimism and most importantly, our hope.
It is the Garden of words where the two characters and their lives meet during the rainy season. Shinikai, being the genius he is,  defined rain as a metaphor in a whole different way than it usually is. Rain being always a symbol of pain and hardship, is in Kotonoha no Niwa a symbol of hope and something our main characters are always looking for.

"A faint clap of thunder,
Clouded skies,
Perhaps rain will come.
If so, will you stay here with me?"

"A faint clap of thunder,
Even of rain comes or not,
I will stay here,
Together with you."

(Man'yoshu verses from the movie)

In short, Kotonoha no Niwa presents a really intriguing and emotional story with an amazing message for all generations.

CHARACTERS

A brilliant story always needed amazing characters that would convey it and the characters of Kotonaha no Niwa were just outstanding. True, the story evolves around Yukino and Takao alone, so we actually don't learn much about the side characters. But the main characters were just enough for the story to evolve. As I explained in the Plot and Story Line section, the most intriguing part of the anime is the contrast between them. Tako being ambitious about his future as shoemaker and extremely mature for his young age (15), whereas, on the other we have Yukino, an adult that lost control of her life in some way and now spends her time eating chocolate and drinking beer.  On the whole, both characters undergo such a great character development and actually bring the whole story to life each in their own way.

ANIMATION AND STYLE

One thing is for sure, I'll soon be doing a post solely devoted to the mastermind behind this beauty, Makoto Shinikai. The thing that made me such a fan of his work was first of all the animation of his movies. Not only are the design, the colors and the fluid movements amazingly done and gorgeous, but it is also all so detailed. It is the detail in the animation that makes the movie so beautiful and magical. I cannot put it in words how stunning it all looks. I could and certainly will watch the movie some time soon again just because of the animation.
Also, I don't usually talk about music in my reviews because I don't notice it that much while watching, but I have to mention the song that played as background in the end of the movie. The ending theme is a song from the 80's, now interpreted by Motohiro Hata. It is called "Rain" and I have it on repeat since I've heard it for the first time.

CONCLUSION

I think it is clear what the conclusion is. I don't know how many times I'll repeat it in my posts but Makaoto Shinika's works are just magical and so is Kotonoha no Niwa. An extremely moving, emotional and interesting story carried by realistic characters and portrayed with THE BEST animation in the anime industry. It is an anime movie with a huge re-watch factor that clearly deserves to be called masterpiece and the only thing I don't like about it is the fact that it's only 45 minutes long.

My Top 5 Most Beautiful Anime Moments

Greetings everyone and welcome to another TOP 5 blog post here on World of Anime Girl. This time, I picked out the most beautiful anime moments I have seen. It was not just the animation that brought these moments into my top 5, but the emotions that these moments carry with them. They are that type of moments that make your eyes wide open, give you goosebumps and just simply take your breath away. There have been many moments like that and it was really hard to pick the best 5, but in the end I had to be subjective and let my feelings decide that. Now without further ado, here are My Top 5 Most Beautiful Anime Moments. **This Post Contains Spoilers**

No.5 KIMI NO NA WA: The Comet

These two pictures don't represent one particular moment in the anime, but every moment in which we get to see this comet while watching one of the greatest movies in anime history. And every time it appears it brings up the same emotions. Of course the most emotional and exciting moment was when we finally understand what actually happened and that was with great extend one of the most touching and heartbreaking and simultaneously most beautiful anime moments I have ever seen.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No.4 SHIGATSU WA KIMI NO USO: Where Everything Started

It hurts just by looking at it. Of course I had to put the probably most beautiful anime I ever watched in my Top 5. Your Lie in April is the only music anime I have seen and it was definitely worth watching. It was really hard to pick one moment for this ranking because there were so many: The moment Kaori and Arima perform together for the first time, Kaori imagining playing on the hospital roof, Arima imagining Kaori when he played in the competition in the end etc. Yet in the end I picked the moment in which everything started. The moment in which Kaori told her April lie. The scene is just magical with her, the music, the birds, the cherry blossoms...Truly beautiful.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No.3 FATE/ ZERO: Saber's Excalibur

Even though she can be annoying from time to time, Saber is still one of my favorite servants in the entire Fate Universe and this moment is, with great extend, the most beautiful one.
"Her sword shines, a dream that all warriors scattered in battle, past, present and future, hold and mournfully exalt as their final moments approach. She carries their will as her pride, bidding them to remain steadfast in their loyalty. Now, the undefeated king sings aloud the name of the miracle she holds in her hands. Its name is... Excalibur!"
I always loved strong female characters in anime and saber showing all her might with her Excalibur definitely made her one of my favorites. The thing that made this moment so special besides ufutable's animation are Irisviel's words (The quote above). It explains what Excalibur really stands for and that made the moment truly beautiful.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No.2 TALES OF ZESTIRIA THE X: This is the World

Again, ufutable's animation at its finest. Tales of Zestiria the X is definitely one of my favorite anime ever because of many reasons. Firstly the animation, then the action, the story, the magic...there are just too many good things about it. The moment that came in second is the finale of the second season and is, in terms of scenery and animation, the most beautiful one. I can't say that I was much moved by it, but it gave me enormous goosebumps and if I remember very well, I replayed this scene at least 3 or 4 times after watching for the first time. It was just magical and is now rightfully on place 2.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No.1 KOTONOHA NO NIWA: The Final Rain

Lately I've been watching a lot of Makoto Shinkai anime movies which all have one thing in common: Breathtaking animation and scenery. For those of you who are not familiar with the name, Makoto Shinikai is now one of the greatest anime producers (mainly movies) and his works also include: Five Centimeters per Second, Someone's Gaze, Children who Chase Lost Voices and Your Name (Kimi no Na wa). You must have seen at least one of these so you probably know what I am talking about.
When it comes to my No.1 most beautiful moment, it is the final scene from the end of the 45 min long movie. To actually understand why I picked this one as my No1. I need to dig in deeper into the story.

**AGAIN, SPOILER ALERT. THIS IS A GOOD MOVIE, DON'T RUIN IT WITH SPOILERS**

In the end the rain falls once again and in that moment they both realize how important they are to each other. The thing that made this moment the most beautiful one is the scene it self and the message it carries. The rain is slowly stopping and the sun is shining again. The sunlight is scattering in all directions because of the raindrops and the sunrays are clear to see due to some of the clouds that are still there. In addition to that, the music in the background contributes to the whole beauty and makes the moment even more amazing (Song: Rain by Motohiro Hata). And even though both Takao and Yukari enjoyed the rain in the movie (as I think), it represented their problems, that are now fading away along with The Final Rain.

Mahou Sensou (Magical Warfare): ANIME REVIEW

Can somebody please remind me to never watch a Madhouse anime ever again. I am grateful to Madhouse for producing many good anime, but can they please finish the anime in a second season instead of leaving us at an enormous cliffhanger every time at the end of the first one. Now I have one more anime on my completed list without knowing how it actually ends and it doesn't even have a manga, just a light novel, and to be honest the anime is not worth reading it. Why? Find it out in today's anime review. This time on Mahou Sensou or Magical Warfare. Enjoy!

STUDIO: Madhouse
GENRE: Action, Fantasy, Magic
EPISODES: 12

PLOT AND STORY LINE 📜

When I saw this anime and read the synopsis I knew that I shouldn't expect much of it. It is just another, average fantasy and  magic anime, with a mainly shallow story and characters, a poor romance, predictable events, annoying shoujo and fan-service elements and an even more irritating brother-complex story in the beginning. Still, the show manages to pull it self together and actually improve in the second half, but just a little bit. Here's what happens...

It all starts when our protagonist Takeshi Nanase stumbles upon an unconscious girl, Aiba Mui that after waking up casts magic and accidentally turns Takeshi also into a magician. He then realizes that the world he lives in is far more different from what he actually thought. What has always been one world is now revealed to be divided into two: the one he used to live in and the one destroyed in the First Magic War. Now with new powers, Takeshi and his two friends (also turned accidentally into magicians) Isoshima and Ida are trying hard to fit in into the new world by training hard and overcoming new obstacles. Also in their way, one of the magic communities called the Ghost Trailers that are using their powers to gain superiority in both worlds. As magicians, Takeshi and his friends are trying to stop the Trailers in order to maintain peace and prevent the beginning of the Second Magic War.

As I said, the anime isn't any good, at least in the beginning but it does start to get a little better after the 6th or 7th episode. The first half is revolves around Aiba chasing after her brother who doesn't remember who he actually is and some pretty annoying shoujo drama involving a love triangle between the main characters. I really don't know how I didn't drop this mess of a shallow plot and story line full of plot holes, but I didn't. And true I can't say that it became much better, but it does get a far more interesting story, I mean it gets an actual story that makes sense.

It reminded me of an anime that is probably better known to you than Mahou Sensou. It is Charlotte. They both start with a non-sense and mostly boring story that is not leading us anywhere, but it then turns into something that might even be worth watching. Mahou Sensou becomes an emotional, moving and somewhere intriguing story about the destiny of two brothers. Secrets are uncovered, everything starts to tie together and Takeshi realizes that it wasn't just an accident that brought him to the magic world.
And just as the anime introduced this new, fresh story, some amazing fights and new hints on what this anime is really about, it ends. Mahou Sensou ends with an enormous cliffhanger and I am pretty sure the makers are not planning on making another season. What's funny, even the author of the novel Mahou Sensou, Hisashi Suzuki hates the anime and thinks that it wasn't a good idea in first place.

CHARACTERS 👩👦

Oh my, so many shallow, useless and annoying characters. All the characters are so simplistic and we have seen personalities like these in so many other anime. The two main characters, being Takeshi and his brother Gekkou are the only ones that kinda stand out with their personalities, but they're still nothing special or unique. The only unique thing that the makers did in the anime is that the useless side-kick is not a girl but a boy, Takeshi's best friend Ida. The female leads of the show, Mui and Isoshima were both pretty annoying and useless picturing the average teenage girl that only has one thing on her mind-love. Isoshima (gif above) does get a character development later and actually becomes a more vital part of the story. I guess we'd have seen more if the anime actually had a second season. Bute yeah...

ANIMATION AND STYLE 💻🎨

I hoped that they would at least do the animation good but this was horrible. I thought the whole time that my laptop charger was defect and that the laptop automatically decreased the brightness after it stops charging. But no, it was the animation of the anime that dimmed the brightness from time to time. In addition to that, I was looking forward to good fight sequences because I love magic action, but instead I got horribly animated fights that looked like a bad flip-chart movie.  The animation style was also nothing special and pretty disappointing on the whole.

CONCLUSION 📋📌

Magic/ School anime having a mainstream plot, a boring story line, shallow characters and average animation should definitely have their own name. I suggest something like Mainstream Magical and Magical Warfare would definitely be their first representative. It is pretty obvious that I don't want to recommend this anime to anyone so you better go watch other anime. And if you really want to watch an anime with a school/magic setting, then go watch Tokyo Ravens or Charlotte, because everything is better than Mahou Sensou. Trust me.

My Impression on the First 13 Episodes of BORUTO

The Summer 2017 season has officially begun with new anime coming out from today on. Of course, there are still some airing from the previous season and I am sure we'll be stuck with one of them for a little while longer. Boruto is in my opinion the highlight of the Spring 2017 season and the first 13 episodes convinced me that it has potential to be a great anime. If you want to know why, here is My Impression on the first 13 episodes of BORUTO: Naruto Next Generations.

The anime starts off with one clear message: This is not a story about a boy who wants to become Hokage, that was Naruto's story. Boruto is a completely different one.
But even though it is a different story I loved how Kishimoto actually made a connection to Naruto's early days. Naruto, being a boy without parents or anyone around craves attention of the whole village and wants to be recognized by everyone. Now, we have Boruto, a boy that has both parents around and lots of friends but craves the attention of one person only-his father. It is kinda moving to see how different their lives are but how similar they actually are. I can't wait to see how the father-son relationship will evolve because I am certain that this will be the most emotional part of the story.

The story it self is pretty good so far. It is slowly introducing the characters and the setting of the anime. In the first scene of the first episode we see Boruto fighting a guy named Kawaki with the Hidden Leaf Village completely destroyed in the background. It is a scene form the future and right after that we are sent to the time when Boruto just started the ninja academy. It is really interesting how the time changed and how the modern world interacts with the traditional ninja world.
The story starts with a ghost appearing in the village that possesses people and makes them loose control and only Boruto can see him. Boruto's right eye manifests that strange power which he thought was the Byakugan in the beginning. Not believing that the adults would actually listen to him, he decides to investigate the ghost incidents together with his friends including Shikadai, Mitsuki, Sarada etc.
Of course after the incidents get more dangerous Naruto engages along with the Hidden Leaf Police. Seeing all these old characters as adults now is also exciting and touching. We see Shino as the teacher, Sai as the police captain, Naruto of course as the Hokage and Shikamaru as his assistant.
So what do I think after watching the first 13 episodes? I'll definitely continue watching! The story is just starting and these first few story arcs are probably an introduction to what's really coming. I believe that the show will be both exciting and emotional with a lot of amazing characters and side stories just as Naruto was. The current story arc reached it's (let's call it) mid-finale in the 13th episode and I am really excited to see what will happen next.
One the whole, Boruto is fresh, moving, exciting and entertaining and the only thing that I struggle with is that it sometimes gives me the feeling that I am just too old for it. Nevertheless, I am already a huge Boruto fan and I'll definitely be watching it until the end and so should you!
