FALL 2017 Anime Preview

What do you mean the Summer holiday is ending? The Fall 2017 season is there?
Sad, but true. Summer is ending but it feels like it was just yesterday that I did the anime preview for the previous season. Worst of it, I haven't seen any Summer 2017 anime except for Fate/Apocrypha. I had to catch up with the anime from Spring. And now I am again doing a preview on all the anime I won't be watching because the new semester is starting. How great. Still, it is my job to give some info and share my opinion on the upcoming anime in the Fall 2017 anime season.  I went through the seasonal anime list on MAL and picked a couple of titles that I found interesting. I hope you enjoy the post and now, without further ado: Fall 2017.

No 1. BLACK CLOVER ♧

RELEASE DATE: October 3, 2017
GENRE: action, comedy, magic, fantasy, shounen
STUDIOS: Studio Pierrot
LINKS: MY ANIME LIST | PV TRAILER

I actually did a post devoted solely to Black Clover a couple of days ago (LINK). Just as I said in that post, Black Clover is an anime I am really looking forward to. I just can't wait for it to start airing. From what I have seen in the trailers and the special episode that came out some while ago the animation looks really good. Black Clover is currently on the third place of the Shounen Jump Magazine popularity ranking, right after One Piece and Boku no Hero Academia. In short, Black Clover is an anime that connects the best things from the shounen genre and turns it into yet another masterpiece that will undoubtedly become the new member of the Big Three. I am currently reading the manga and trust me when I say this: the anime is gonna be grand. An action loaded and touching story about a young boy born without magic in a world that actually considers it impossible. Still, he doesn't give up and trains hard in order to reach his goal-to become the strongest magic knight in the country: The Emperor Magus. I am sure that Black Clover will have a lot of haters saying that it is not original at all and that it is just a rip-off of other anime such as Naruto and Fairy Tail, but considering how originality is rare nowadays in the anime world I pretty sure that Black Clover will still be much better than anything else. Yes, even better than Boruto, but we shall see that. High on my recommendation list for this season: BLACK CLOVER. Don't miss it!

No 2. ANIMEGATARIS 💻🏫

RELEASE DATE: October 8, 2017
GENRE: comedy, school
STUDIOS: WAO World
LINKS: MY ANIME LIST | PV TRAILER

It's an anime about otaku! How cool is that? Minoa Asagay is new to the Sakaneko Private School and even though she doesn't know much about anime, she gets invited to join the 'Anime research club'. But despite the student council trying to disband the club and the world apparently ending, they don't stop talking about anime. A true definition of otaku ladies and gentlemen. The PV trailer doesn't give much detail about how the show's gonna be, but I'll definitely keep my tabs on it.

No 3. DIES IRAE 💣

RELEASE DATE: October 7, 2017
GENRE: action, super power, magic
STUDIOS: A.C.G.T.
LINKS: MY ANIME LIST | PV TRAILER

Why is it always Germany? The root of all evil in anime, this one included. After the Russians take over Berlin, a group of Nazi officials conducts an ritual to bring The Order of 13 Lances to life who would eventually bring destruction upon the world. Why the hell not? Wouldn't be their first try I guess. Years later, nobody knows whether the officials succeeded and only a few know about the existence of the order. The story then follows Ren Fujii who lives in present day Suwahara City. After a fight with his friend, Ren gets hospitalized and it is then when he starts having some weird dreams about guillotines, murderers etc. He though that his life would go back to normal after he leaves the hospital, but little did he know that his life would never be the same again.
After seeing the PV trailer I'd maybe add the anime to the horror or thriller genre but I'll definitely add it to my 'plan to watch' list.

No 4. JUST BEACUSE! 👦👩

RELEASE DATE: October 5, 2017
GENRE: school
STUDIOS: Pine Jam

And we have an original anime this season. I've seen it a couple of times over the internet recently, always revealing new visuals, cast members etc. It it basically about a group of friends who are about to graduate from high school and the new transfer student. That's it. That's what I know about Just Because!. But I am curious. The character design I saw from the PV trailer looks strange, but nice, whereas the animation looks amazing. So I might check it out later on.

No 5. JUUNI TAISEN (ZODIAC WAR) ♋♍♈

RELEASE DATE: October 3, 2017
GENRE: action
STUDIOS: Graphinica

The reason I stumbled upon this anime was because a certain title caught my attention: "Juuni Taisen is half Fate, half Monogatari". Since I am a huge Fate fan I was really curious what it was about and it is just as the title suggests. Twelve warriors fight each other's life and pride at stake, all to grant one wish. Sounds interesting, the trailer also looks good and I am looking forward to the good action. This anime will definitely stay on my plan to watch list.

MOVIE: Fate/ Stay Night: Heaven's Feel- I. Presage Flower 🎦🎬

RELEASE DATE: October 14, 2017
GENRE: action, fantasy, super natural, magic
STUDIOS: ufotable

And finally, Heaven's Feel. For those of you who are not that familiar with it, Heaven's Feels is the third and last root of the Stay Night visual novel, basically an alternative version of Stay Night and Unlimited Blade Works. What I look most forward to in this movie is definitely ufotable's outstanding animation, as always I guess. Ever since I watched Unlimited Blade Works, ufotable has become my favorite studio because I pay much attention to the anime animation. Besides, there's never enough Fate in the world. Right? Not sure when I'll be able to watch the movie considering the fact that it will air in Japanese theaters on October 14. But as soon as I get the chance to watch it online, I definitely will.

ALSO AIRING THIS FALL:

Blend S
Boku no Kanojo ga Majimesugiro Shobitch na Ken
Code: Realize
Dynamic Chord
Evil or Live
Garo: Vanishing Line
Himouto! Umaru-chan R

ANIME BATTLE: Fate/Stay Night vs. Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works

I thought I did the ultimate anime battle with Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works and Fate/ Zero (Here's the LINK), but today's post is going to be a war and it's not for the Holy Grail. As you all probably know, different Fate/ Stay Night roots from the original visual novel were turned into anime adaptations:
Fate/ Stay Night: Produced by Studio DEEN in 2006, Stay Night was the first Fate anime work and it covers the first root (Fate) and some parts of the other visual novel roots (Unlimited Blade Works, Heaven's Feel). It's a one-seasonal anime with a total of 24 episodes.
Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works: After producing Fate/ Zero, ufotable takes over and makes an anime adaptation of the UBW root of the Stay Night visual novel in 2014. It is a two-seasonal anime with 25 episodes in total, including the prologue episode.
Fate/ Stay Night: Heaven's Feel: The third root of Stay Night will be covered in three movies, also by ufotable,  whereas the first one will be released in Japanese theaters on October 14, 2017.

Now that we've covered all the roots let's get to the main part of this post. For all you reading an Anime Battle post on World of Anime Girl for the first time, this is a blog section where I pick two anime (similar in tone, topic, genre etc) and compare them in three sections: Plot and Story Line, Characters and Animation. The winner is the anime that won the most rounds. And now, without any further ado : Stay Night (SN) vs. Unlimited Blade Works (UBW). Enjoy!

 ❗❗  SPOILER ALERT  ❗❗

❗❗ CONCLUSION IS SPOILER-FREE ❗❗

PLOT AND STORY LINE 📜

As you all might know already, both anime have the same setting and a nearly similar story line. Still, each root has its own plot and plot twists that made both anime enjoyable to watch.
First of all, both anime start off in the same way and follow the same characters. In the center of SN we have Emiya Shirou. After a mysterious inferno kills his family, Shirou is adopted by the mage Emiya Kiritsugu. Years after his death, Shirou is caught in a fierce fight between two 'superhumans' called servants. After nearly loosing his life, in desperation to survive, Shirou summons a servant of his own, a knight called Saber. The two must now participate in the Fifth Holy Grail War, a battle royale to life and death in order to obtain the ultimate prize: The Holy Grail that grants its owner any wish. UBW is basically the same, just this time, the focus as the main character is set on Rin Tohsaka, who is also the female lead character in SN.Question is now, what's the difference? between the two roots?

The first difference is basically who fights whom. Berserker for instance is beaten by Shirou, Rin and Saber in SN, but in UBW Giglamesh is the one that kills him. Saber fights and kills Rider with her Noble Phantasm in SN, but in UBW Rin and Shirou just find her dead. When it comes to the action I think that both anime were equally as good. Some fights were better in SN, like the one between Berserker and Archer, but Giglamesh vs. Berserker in UBW was also grand. A clear difference is however in Archer's and Shirou's background story.

Archer is summoned by Rin, but he doesn't remember anything about his past life. I found that odd right in the beginning, but I never thought that he would actually be the heroic spirit of Future Shirou. That is of course reveled in UBW, not in SN. SN does drop some hints, but I am not sure if I'd be able to figure it out without watching UBW first. Also, UBW focuses more on Shirou's ideals and his goal to become the hero of justice. That is rather unclear in SN because they put some elements of the UBW and Heaven's Feel root into the Stay Night Anime. In that way, they omitted actually the core of Shirou's transformation and the story of how he actually became a heroic spirit. But even though that is a crucial part of Stay Night (no matter what root) I didn't miss it, because I found it way too annoying in UBW. His ideals were too childish so I was actually pretty cool with SN leaving out all the crap about the 'hero of justice'.

Lastly, Gilgamesh's death. In UBW, Shirou becomes suddenly so strong and actually manages to kill the King of Heroes, Giglamesh. I was so furious because...come on. It was impossible, but of course, the anime had to end somehow. SN on the other hand has a more realistic ending. Saber, who is the strongest servant of all, kills Archer Gilgamesh. I am fine with that. But I still think that Gilgamesh is stronger than Saber. It was because of his arrogance that he died like that, nothing else.
In short, SN mixed elements of all three roots into one anime, so you actually get a good story but it leaves many unanswered questions. UBW on the other hand did a better job when it comes to that and actually focused on what's important. Personally, I liked SN more because it was less annoying and more realistic, but objectively seen, the story in UBW was better. So the winner in the first round: Unlimited Blade Works!

CHARACTERS 👦👩

I guess I can't pick a winner here because all the characters are basically the same. Shirou is ignorant and childish in both Stay Night versions, Rin is an awesome and badass character no matter what anime she is in, Saber is...well, Saber...So, I guess we have a tie when it comes to the character section.

ANIMATION AND STYLE 💻

"I am the bone of my wallet. Hype is my body and money is my blood. I have wasted over a thousand million yen, unknown to DEEN, nor known to JC Staff. Have withstood CG Dragons to create crappy spinoffs. Yet they will never satisfy the Fate fans. So, as I spend, UNLIMITED BUDGET WORKS!" -credits to Gigguk
I think you get it. Ufotable created an amazing, stunning, almost unbelievable animation in UBW that I plan to re-watch some time just because of it. I just don't agree with the 'crappy spinoffs' part because I truly am a huge Fate fan. I don't consider all of them masterpieces, but they are and always will be one of my favorite anime. As for DEEN's SN...It was made back in 2006, so I can't really compare it with an 2015 anime, especially when it comes to ufotable. The animation really is bad. But hey, a battle is a battle so this time again, the winner is Unlimited Budget Works

CONCLUSION 📌

I guess we have a winner. Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works follows one specific root of the original visual novel and so has an complete story that focuses on Emiya Shirou and his character development. With a breathtaking animation, ufotable takes animation quality to a whole new level and sets new standards that hardly any other anime studio can compare to. Unlimited Blade Works clearly deserves to be called a masterpiece and also the winner in this anime battle! As for Fate/Stay Night, produced by DEEN, it definitely lacks good animation and a fixed story line. It also leaves some unanswered questions that are answered in UBW but it still doesn't mean that it is bad. The story even ends better than in UBW.
The anime community argues much about whether you should just watch UBW or just SN, but I definitely agree with those that say that you should watch both of them. Even though it's a messy one and "People die if they are killed" (Emiya Shirou), I enjoyed the story line of Stay Night more, but ufotable's animation in UBW is incomparable to any other. Watch SN because Shirou is less annoying and it has a more realistic story line, but don't miss UBW's spectacular animation and the answers to some very important questions.

What do you think, which Stay Night version is better? Which one do you like more? Leave your thoughts and answers in the comments bellow!

Black Clover: New Member of the Big Three?

This has been a quite popular topic recently. With the end of Naruto and Bleach and in my opinion also with the end of Fairy Tail partially, new manga and anime have been pushed into the limelight of the Shounen genre. Boku no Hero Academia achieved quite the popularity in the beginning, with all right, because it is an outstanding anime (I still haven't started the manga, but I will). Boruto on the other hand, recieved some attention, but it is in my opinion way too underrated. I guess he will always 'live in the shadow of his dad'. I am reading the manga and watching the anime and I have to say that they are both excellent. Boruto will probably be a long running anime so it has a long way to go. I love it as it is for now but I definitely expect more in the episodes to come.
And there is one more manga sharing the Shounen Jump spotlight: BLACK ♧ CLOVER.

Don't know what it is about?

Written and illustrated by Tabata Yuuki, Black Clover is an action, fantasy, shounen manga released in the Weekly Shounen Jump magazine in Japan. Black Clover follows our 15-year-old protagonist named Asta, who is born without any magical power, something considered impossible in the world he lives in. But despite that setback, Asta's not giving up on his dream to become the Wizard Emperor (The strongest magic knight in the Kingdom). Fortunate for him, Asta manages to aquire a rare power: Anti-magic and so becomes a member of the Blak Bulls, one of the nine squads of Magic Knights. Now one step close to his goal, Asta takes off on an amazing adventure full of action, entertainment but also hardship.

Naruto and Fairy Tail all over again?

Truth is, Black Clover does follow some shounen anime cliche like: 'the power of firendship', 'I'll be the next "Hokage"', 'the dark power inside the main character', 'the one rival/friend' character, 'the main character always motivating and inspiring the others' etc. We have seen many of these in all the big anime, and Black Clover will probably be added to the list. The manga reminds me most of Fairy Tail and Naruto, being similar in tone and setting. Yet, Black Clover, for what I have seen in the first 100-ish chapters of the manga, promises uniqueness and twist that I didn't see coming.
In short, Black Clover might follow some cliches that we've seen oh so many times, yet it is a totally different story, with many twists and unique characteristics that will make Black Clover a part of the future Big Three.

Should I read/watch Black Clover?

Yes! Definitely yes! As I said, Black Clover might follow other shounen manga and anime cliches, but we all still love them deep inside, don't we? Black Clover is a thrilling adventure, full of hilarious situations, action loaded fights and a couple of really moving moments. In short, Black Clover has it all and you should definitely give it a try.

Anime in October?

"From the team that brought you Bleach and Naruto comes another saga of courage"-says the intro of the Crunchyroll trailer for the anime adaptation of Black Clover that will start airing this Fall. The studio that is producing the show is one of my favorite anime studios, Studio Pierrot. I am personally so hyped about it, I can't even put it in words. I just can't wait for October to come to take us on another shounen adventure because I am sure that Black ♧ Clover will be a great one! Down bellow I also have the PV trailers for you, so make sure to check them out.

Re: Creators: ANIME REVIEW

Hello everybody this is the Anime Girl and you are currently reading another review here on World of Anime Girl. The Spring 2017 anime season brought a couple of amazing shows that are a must watch for every anime fan. Boku no Hero Academia (second season), Shingeki no Kyoujin (second season), Boruto and the anime I'll be reviewing today: Re:Creators.
One thing I noticed after checking it out today on My Anime List is definitely its low rating. 7.62 doesn't sound that bad but I am sure that this show deserves a far greater one. I, for instance, gave it a 10/10. Yes, I consider Re: Creators a masterpiece because it is a unique and fresh creation in the anime world that has everything a masterpiece needs. More about it now in the review, enjoy!

STUDIO: TROYCA
GENRE: Action, Sci-Fi, Fantasy
EPISODES: 22

PLOT AND STORY LINE 📜

Can writers and artist actually be called creators? Has anyone ever considered them as creators of many different worlds just by turning their imagination into words or works of art? They create stories, create characters, their looks and personalities, so can we still say that they don't exists? Sounds more like philosophy to me than an anime setting, but that's exactly what made Re: Creators one of my favorites this year.

The story follows Souta Mizushino, a high school student who aspires to become such a creator by writing and illustrating his own light novel. In wish to get some inspiration for his work, he checks out the new episode of an anime he is watching and suddenly gets teleported into a fierce fight scene. After returning back home he realizes that he didn't come back alone-the heroine of the anime, Celstia Yupitilia has also returned with him. Before long, other fictional characters from manga and anime appear in Japan, slowly blending out the line between fiction and reality. The most mysterious among them is a woman dressed in full military regalia. She seems to be responsible for all this, yet nobody knows who she is or where she comes from.

There are many things that turned Re: Creators into a masterpiece, but the most important one is undoubtedly the uniqueness of the story. Just as I thought that anime stories are slowly all becoming one and the same, Re: Creators showed that the industry has yet another ace up its sleeve. The setting and the whole 'Can creators be considered gods?' theme is so intriguing that it made me watch the first 20 episodes all in one go. I don't usually watch more than 15, but I guess I broke my personal record. The anime delivers a highly interesting and exciting story that keeps you on tenterhooks from the first to the last episode. Did I mention the roller coaster of emotions you feel while watching this show? No?
Re: Creators is a story where every single creation (the fictional characters that came to the real world) has its own emotional side story. They carry the hardship and the scars of their world to the real one in hope to convince their creators to help them. Most of the side stories are heartbreaking and emotional tales, especially the one that follows our protagonist Souta Mizushino.

But enough with emotions, let's talk about the action. An anime that literary combined magic, fantasy, mecha, demons, knights etc cannot be bad when it comes to the action. As expected, the anime is full of exciting battles and amazing fight scenes, particularly in the last third of the show. Everyone is fighting in their own way, whether he or she is a knight, a magical girl or just an ordinary detective with a gun. I enjoyed the action to the fullest and I am sure that you will too.
In short, Re: Creators has a unique and extremely exciting story that has a deep, nearly philosophical core in the middle. Wrapped up with moving and intriguing side stories, as well as with amazing action, Re: Creators clearly shows that the anime industry still has some bright days ahead.

CHARACTERS 👩👦

Re: Creators is an anime that has many different characters where each and every one of them has a unique and distinct personality. As I mentioned before, one thing that makes all the characters come to life are their intriguing background stories. But what's more important and entertaining are the relationships between the 'creators' and their 'creations'. It was also really moving to see how the creators actually care for their creations, rooting and trying to protect them during fights, crying for them after they die etc. It is just interesting to see how their relationships grow and affect their personalities. We have definitely seen characters like these in other anime before, but it is the relationships between the characters that are really important here.

ANIMATION AND STYLE 💻

I'll just mention one thing-Episode 21. Just this Summer I've done a blog post, My Top 5 Most Beautiful Anime Moments and I actually considered editing the post and put the whole 21st episode somewhere in the top 3. It was breathtakingly beautiful, just as the rest of the anime. Candy for the eyes. Everything about the animation and the style is perfect, from the backgrounds to the character designs. I've loved it all.

CONCLUSION 📌

Not that I just enjoyed watching this anime, but it actually got me thinking about some trivial things like whether we can call some things non-existent just because they are a product of our imagination. They exist in our thought, doesn't it mean that they are real? But enough of that, the anime has other qualities that made it a true masterpiece. Intriguing stories, amazing characters and breathtaking animation are just the tip of the iceberg. Re: Creators is an anime with a huge 'Re: Watch ' factor and I highly recommend everyone to give it a try.

AKATSUKI NO YONA 146: Manga Discussion

Greetings everyone and welcome to the World of Anime Girl. It's a brand new post and I am glad you stopped by because this time, I'll be talking about one of my favorite anime/manga ever. The Girl Standing in the Blush of Dawn came out in the Fall 2014 anime season and has been one of my favorites ever since. Unfortunately, the anime never got a second season, whereas the story had only just began. Kusanagi Mizuho is the name of the man behind the masterpiece who has kept the manga exciting, entertaining, funny and romantic all this time. The latest manga chapter (146) came out this week and is undoubtedly the biggest highlight so far.
Akatsuki no Yona is a tale about the 16-year-old Yona, the princess of the Kouka kingdom. After witnessing the murder of her father by the hand of her greatest love Su-won, Yona is forced to flee from the castle along with her childhood friend and bodyguard Son Hak. It is now that Yona realized that her kingdom is not as idyllic and peaceful as it seemed. With only an old legend to guide her, Yona sets off on an adventure in wish to restore her kingdom to its former glory.

FROM NOW ON: SPOILER ALERT!!!

The action loaded, adventure and fantasy story is getting more and more exciting and I just wanted to share my hype with the community and fellow Yona fans. After finding the four legendary dragons and establishing a tight bond with them Yona travels trough the kingdom trying to get rid of the corruption and poverty she encounters. I this story arc, Yona and her followers stand between the Kouka Kingdom and the Kingdom of Xing, who are about to start a war with each other. In order to stop it, Yona persuades Su won to nagotiate with the princess of Xing, Kouren, but just as they thought that peace was within their reach, the anti-war-fraction of the Xing kingdom steps in and attacks their own princess.
After Yona is caught in the cross-fire, the four dragons, who have been previously captured, suddenly awaken an amazing power and save Yona from the arrows. The dragons awakened the Kouka Kingdom's four-bodied dragon. It was such an amazing scene and I scrolled up and down a couple of times just to see it again and again. If only we could see it animated as well. I just can't wait to see what happens next. The next chapter is set for September 20, but the translations will probably arrive a bit later.

Also one more thing worth mentioning: "Princess. When this is over...we need to talk". Has anyone actually paid attention to it. I literary died when Hak said this to Yona. Besides, that one Yona x Hak moment: 😍 . I'm telling you, he's gonna propose. Kidding, I am not so sure, but I seriously can't wait anymore. Hak and Yona are the first and only anime couple I ship so hard. The romance in this manga tops every other shoujo story there is.
So guys, what do you think will happen? I hope you'll also just as excited as I am. I'll definitely do a discussion on the next chapter, so be sure to check it out as well. See you next time!

Netflix's Death Note (2017): Is it worth watching?

Good Evening guys and welcome to another post here on World of Anime Girl. It is another FAQ post and this time it is related to Netfilx's movie adaptation of Tsugumi Ohba's Death Note. Every otaku has been asking the same question: Is the movie worth watching? Here's my answer, enjoy!

First of all, I did not read the Death Note manga. I only watched the anime and my first question, after seeing that it will get a live action movie, was: how can they put 37 episodes in only one movie? Well, the thing Netflix did was to change the whole story line so that it can fit the length. Other than the idea of the anime and the main characters, the movie has nothing similar to the original story. In the beginning I thought that they did a terrible job, but after considering the fact that they could never make a good movie out of the anime, I accepted it and what's more, I even enjoyed it, to some extend at least.
Like I mentioned, the movie is totally different from the anime. Now set in Seattle, USA the movie follows Light Turner, a high school student that finds the Death Note in his school yard. It is easy to notice how they actually Americanized the whole movie especially when it comes to the setting and the characters. As I said before, I didn't have a problem with them changing the story line so that it can fit the movie length, but there are two major issues I had with the movie.
First of all, how could they possibly turn the mystery, psychological, thriller masterpiece into a cringy, horror, drama, that reminds me more of the Final Destination movie series rather than the original Death Note. Instead of leaving the setting as it is, in Japan, Netflix adapted the movie so that it can fit the American culture and that was the second biggest mistake they could do. The anime lost its charm and so turned into yet another teenage horror, full of unnecessary gore that of course had to end with prom night.

Secondly and with it, the greatest mistake they did while adapting the original was to change the characters, and I am not talking about the character looks. I loved Light Yagami for being arrogant, smart, persistent and most importantly, level headed. But Timmy Turner, sorry, I mean Light Turner, is the complete opposite. Freaking out over the first obstacle he encounters is one of the things the original Light would never do. By keeping a cool head Light Yagami was able to accomplish what he did, but this one messed up right in the beginning. Keeping calm was also one of L's most important characteristics, but the movie turned him into an impulsive crybaby that lost control over him self after just one little loss. But hey, at least he got the squattig right. And now we come to the character that was, in my opinion, messed up the most, Misa Amane, or as in the movie Mia Sutton. Her loyalty to Light was a crucial part of the original Death Note but in the Netflix version, she became a manipulative bi*** who wanted control over the notebook for her self. What's more, the dynamic and intriguing relationship the two had, turned into a cringy, teenage romance, that was, undoubtedly, a total flop.

And lastly, there was Ryuk. The Shinigami that acted just as the spectator in the original work, became the pupet master in the Netflix version. In that way, the movie completely lost connections to the original work and turned into yet another bad adaptation that did have the potential to be good. The only bright thing of the movie was undoubtedly, Willem Dafoe in the role of Ryuk. The cast was in general really good but Dafoe did an outstanding job playing that role and if it wasn't for him, I would have probably hated the movie. Which I did not. Here's why:
By imagining the movie in a world where the anime doesn't exists, it let me enjoy the movie to some extend. It was exciting and interesting but of course, incomparable to the original work. So, on the whole, I did enjoy the movie, but if I were to compare it to the original Death Note, I would probably give it a 2/10. 1 is for the fact that they didn't mess up the story that much and 1 for Willem Dafoe. In short, I think you won't regret spending 1h and 40 min on this adaptation but Netflix's Death Note  is yet another live action adaptation that definitely deserves its name to be written down in the Death Note.

QuanZhi GaoShou (The King's Avatar): ANIME REVIEW

Based on a Chinese web serial novel, Chinese producers, animated in a Chinese studio and all in Chinese dub. Can we still call it anime? I am not so sure about that but I stumbled upon this show on My Anime List and I decided to give it a try. I was about to give it up right in the first episode because of the annoying language but I am glad I didn't. Quanzhi Gaoshou aka. The King's Avatar turned out to be a great and entertaining anime that is definitely worth your time and here's the review to it. Enjoy!

STUDIO: G.CMay Animation & Film
GENRE: Action, Adventure, Comedy, Game
EPISODES: 12

Plot & Story Line 📜

Quanzhi Gaoshou aka, The King's Avatar follows Ye Xiu, a top-tier professional player in the multiplayer game Glory. In the world of Glory he is known for his amazing techniques and skill giving him the nickname "Battle God". After he is forced to retire and give up his gaming career, he finds work at a nearby internet cafe. After launching its tenth server, Ye starts the game anew with a new avatar: Lord Grim. Ten years of playing were easily noticed by the newbies and later on also by other pro players. Everyone is now interested in the player behind Lord Grim as he plays his way to the Glory's summit again.

I was rather skeptical in the beginning expecting another isekai themed anime, but man was I wrong. The story isn't exactly set in a fantasy/game world, but it rather moves from the real world to the game and back again. On one side, it follows the reality of the gamers, the pro-players, the different clubs and all about the gamer world. Then suddenly, when the main characters start their mission we're instantly teleported to that amazing fantasy world of Glory. Action loaded battles, amazing fights and entertaining game strategies are just the beginning of the journey that Lord Grim and his comrades take us on.

Still the core of the story remains Ye's struggle in the gamer world. Taking the forced resignation casually, he continues playing not out of spite, but because of his love towards Glory. He doesn't care that much about his revenge but enjoys making the other pro-players look bad in fights. I found that the most entertaining part of the show which unfortunately ends halfway. Will we have a second season and will we see Ye at the top again, I don't know. But I am definitely hoping for a second season soon.
In short, The King's Avatar is an exciting story that shows the best and the worst of both worlds. It takes you on a thrilling adventure both in game and reality. After its rush development in the beginning, the story does slow down somewhere in the second half which kinda chills the excitement you build up before. Gladly it didn't end like that but with an somehow epic seasonal finale.

Characters 👦👩

The characters in The King's Avatar weren't that special nor unique but still an interesting and diverse bunch of personalities. Our main character, Ye Xiu is a cool, simple minded and down-to-earth character, who doesn't enjoy the lime light that much. His career as a pro-player didn't revolve around fame and money but was solely devoted to playing Glory because he loves it. He is also an extremely clever individual always coming up with interesting strategies to complete his missions and quests. Another character I found quite interesting was his best friend/love interest Su Mucheng. She is know as the 1st Beauty of Glory and definitely deserves the title. On of the few female pro-players in Glory with exceptional skill and technique. She has a sweet and caring personality but becomes an unstoppable warrior in the game.

Animation & Style 💻

Literary candy for your eyes. It's been a while since I've seen such a great animation. The scenery, the backgrounds, the character design, the fight sequences, visual effects, everything was just breathtaking. I think animation was the one thing that kept me watching this anime when the language gets way too annoying. The King's Avatar proves how animation can blend out other little flaws such as plot holes, a bad plot twist, boring characters or even when the ONA is in Chinese.

Conclusion 📌

When I started watching this anime I though: Okay Lejla, you watcher Boruto: Naruto the Movie in Korean, you can also watch The King's Avatar in Chinese. It was a struggle but it was worth it. The anime pictures an exciting and interesting story full of adventure and action loaded fights. Though the characters could have been given a bit more personality but the animation definitely accounted for all the little flaws the anime had. It is one of the better anime from the Spring 2017 season and you should certainly give it a try.

My Top 5 Favorite Fate Servants

Greetings everybody and welcome to another post here on World of Anime Girl. Before I begin, I'd like to remind you to check out a collab post I did with Lita Kino on her blog "Lita Kino Anime Corner". She has amazing posts on her page and you should definitely check it out some time. You can find the collab post under THIS LINK.
Now to today's topic-Fate Servants. Stay Night, Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works, Grand Order, Zero, Apocrypha are all anime shows/movies/games set in the Fate universe. A world where 7 mages fight among each other to obtain the ultimate prize-The Holy Grail. In order to win the war, each mage, the master, summons a servant, a heroic legend from the past who comes in either of the seven major classes: Saber, Archer, Rider, Lancer, Assassin, Caster and Berserker. Grand Order and Apocrypha also have Shielder and Ruler servant classes. Now, the Fate universe is full of those servants, so I thought, why not make a Top 5 list. It was pretty hard to pick only 5 but here they are, my favorite servants from the vast Fate universe. Enjoy!

No. 5 Carmilla

SOURCE: Fate/ Grand Order
CLASS: Assassin

The reason this servant became one of my top 5 is because I was so intrigued by her horrific personality and the person she actually portrays. Her true name is Elizabeth Bathory who later on became known as the vampire Carmilla. She was a Hungarian noblewoman who bathed in the blood of over 600 victims in order to gain eternal youth. Carmilla and Elizabeth (her younger/inner self) are still fighting each other because Elisabeth is resisting to become the cruel vampire. As horrible as she is, she is a great servant in the game and has a really interesting noble phantasm: The Phantom Maiden, based on her torture machine The Iron Maiden.

No. 4 Robin Hood

SOURCE: Fate/ Grand Order
CLASS: Archer

The legend about this heroic spirit is one of my favorites. The chivalrous thief that protected the poor and the innocent from the shadows is an archer class servant in the Fate/ Grand Order game. Robin Hood was a thief that lurked in the Sherwood Forest near Nottingham. Fighting for justice in his own way, Robin opposed the tyranny of the feudal lords and the nobility. From the beginning on, Robin has always been a faceless hero that acted from the shadows. He fought his battles dirty, killing his enemies using pragmatic methods such as ambushes and poison. In wish to cover up his childish ideals of justice, this archer always puts up a frivolous and slightly arrogant attitude. The reason Robin is on my fourth place is of course firstly his background and secondly...he's cool.

No. 3 Alexander the Great

SOURCE: Fate/ Zero
CLASS: Rider

Since Fate/ Zero was the first Fate anime I watched, Iskandar was also one of the first servants I encountered and learnt about their personalities. Him being Alexander the Great got me totally hyped about the whole Fate universe and I've been a huge fan ever since then. The King of Conquerors is a noble King who values friendship more than anything else.  An adventurer in heart who wasn't interested in material conquest. The only goal he had in mind was to conquer the hearts of people. He sees a king as someone who inspires people, sets a vivid example to be followed and someone who should create personal bonds with others. This rider servant is one of the strongest servants in the whole franchise who even got Gilgamesh to acknowledge him as his only friend. Fate/ Zero would have been half as good if Iskandar wasn't there. An amazing and extremely interesting character who definitely conquered one heart-mine.

No. 2 Gilgamesh

SOURCE: Fate/ Zero, Fate/ Grand Order
CLASS: Archer

I know what you might think: "What is this overpowered bastard doing on the second place?". Well, I just love The King of Heroes who is portrayed in mankind's oldest poem, The Epic of Gilgamesh. If there was on word that describes Gilgamesh the best than it is arrogance. It is his arrogance that leads to his pathetic death in Unlimited Blade Works. Talking about that, I was so furious when I saw Shirou kill Gilgamesh, because I consider it as completely impossible. Even though arrogance might be an explanation to what happened in the end of UBW, I still think that it was just non-sense. Gilgamesh is without any doubt the strongest servant in the Fate universe and if he wanted to, he could have easily killed Saber too. Also, I am convinced that he had true feelings for Saber (Artoria Pendragon) he just didn't know how to properly express them. So, although he had obtained all the other treasures of the world, one was still out of his reach:
"What an abominable woman you are. Defying me...until the end, huh? But I shall allow it. There are things that are beautiful because on cannot possess them."
But despite being an arrogant ruler who puts him self before his own people and only sees value in the treasures he possesses, Gilgamesh is one of my favorites. It might be the fan girl inside of me writing this but nevertheless, Gilgamesh is and always will be a true legend for me.

No. 1 Saber Lily

SOURCE: Fate/ Grand Order
CLASS: Saber

Saber Lily is an alternate version of the Saber we know. It pictures Artoria Pendragon as a young girl who is, in this state, known as the Knight Princess. As a child destined to become the King and save Britain, Lily undergoes a harsh training along with the magician Merlin. Young and beautiful as a lily, Saber Lily was loved by her people who she always tried to protect from evil. She is a knight with a romantic and idyllic nature. It is her inexperience as a knight that protects Lily's dreams and hopes but also her cheerful personality. That is exactly why Saber Lily is my favorite Fate Servant and not her older self. I agree with Rider (Iskandar) when he says that a king should be someone that inspires and leads his folk, not someone who walks a lonely path full of sorrow trying to save the whole kingdom on his own. Saber Lily is a brave and strong knight whose ideals still haven't been destroyed by reality. Despite knowing Saber Lily only from the smartphone game Fate/ Grand Order I instantly became a fan of this version of Saber and was so happy to actually get this card in the game. I like to original Saber too, but I found her vision of kingship annoying which is exactly why I prefer Saber Lily. A strong, fearless and cheerful young girl is what I also thrive to be so it only natural for Lily to be on the first place in this ranking-My favorite fate servant.

"Sword of Selection. Grant me your power! Cleave the wicked! Caliburn!"
